Could the Crafter's Connection 12x16 Shed Kit Give You a More Convenient Place to Work and Store?
Nominal Size: 12 ft × 16 ftDoor layout: Centered gable sliding doorsRoof Pitch: 6/12 gableSiding: Primed LP SmartSideFloor: Not included
Moving supplies through your shed entrance should feel straightforward, even when you are working just outside it. The Crafter's Connection 12x16 Shed Kit pairs sliding wood doors with 8-foot-1-inch sidewalls, giving you an entrance without an outward door swing and taller walls to consider as you plan your layout. Its traditional gable design provides a practical starting point for a shed you can finish around your projects.
Benefits
A More Convenient Approach: Centered on the gable end, the wood doors slide sideways on tracks and rollers instead of swinging toward you. That makes it easier to plan the area immediately in front of the entrance for loading and unloading. The published nominal door dimensions are 65 inches wide by 78 inches high; check the actual clear opening against your equipment and leave room for door travel.
More Ways to Plan Your Layout: The 12-by-16-foot foundation footprint gives you 192 square feet of outside building area to plan around, while the 8-foot-1-inch sidewalls help you consider taller storage arrangements. Map out your tools, separately purchased shelving, and walking routes using the finished interior dimensions so the layout supports how you will use the shed.
A Prepared Start for Your DIY Build: Prepared structural wood components, prebuilt sliding doors, tracks and rollers, roof sheathing, and assembly hardware give your project a defined starting point. You can focus your planning on the building sequence, site preparation, and finishing materials, with some cutting and on-site wall and truss assembly still required.
An Exterior You Can Make Your Own: Primed LP SmartSide engineered wood siding is ready for your separately supplied exterior paint. Choose a color that coordinates with your home, complements nearby structures, or makes the shed a feature of your yard, giving the finished building a more intentional place on your property.
Finish Choices That Fit Your Plans: With the finished floor, final roofing materials, paint, and any windows supplied separately, you can plan those details around your intended use and preferred appearance. Making these choices before construction helps you organize purchases and build a complete project budget, including the required drip edge, roof fasteners, and Class 25 sealant.

Plan the Floor, Windows and Roof
Floor: The floor is sold separately. You can build a wood floor or prepare a suitable concrete pad using the exact manual’s 12 ft. × 16 ft. outside foundation dimensions. Keep the foundation level and square, check local requirements, and follow the manual’s foam sill sealer detail for concrete construction.
Windows: Windows are purchased separately. Before cutting openings, plan compatible window styles and locations using the exact kit manual and the instructions supplied with your windows.
Roof: OSB roof sheathing is included. You supply the finished shingles or metal roofing, drip edge, appropriate roofing nails or screws, exterior paint and Class 25 sealant. For shingles, the manual lists 10 bundles and eight 10-foot pieces of drip edge. Follow the manual and your chosen roofing system’s instructions.
Foundation and Assembly Planning
Prepare a level, square foundation measuring 12 ft 0 in × 16 ft 0 in, following this model’s manual. The instructions include a wood-floor layout and a concrete foundation option. Check local permit, setback and anchoring requirements before preparing the site.
This is a DIY assembly kit, and installation is excluded. Some on-site cutting is required. Review the complete assembly manual, packing list and additional-material requirements before starting.
Before You Build
Manual and packing list: Read the exact configuration’s manual and check the packing list before starting. Retain all kit materials until the build is complete.
Site and foundation: Confirm local requirements and prepare a level, square foundation to the manual’s dimensions.
Tools and staging: Gather the manual’s listed tools and safety glasses. Sort components by size and type in a clear staging area.
Helpers: Arrange extra help for delivery, raising walls and handling roof components.
Assembly sequence: Follow the manual’s numbered steps, including Step 20 for the sliding-door tracks, Steps 21A–21B for door installation and Step 22 for roofing. Some cuts are required, and walls and trusses are assembled on site.
Roofing and finishing: Have your owner-supplied roofing, paint and Class 25 sealant ready for the appropriate assembly stages. Installation is not included.
Tools listed in the manual: a hand or circular saw, cordless drill, hammer, pencil, level, tape measure, 6–8 ft ladder(s), safety glasses, dust mask, screwdriver with bits and framing square.
Exterior Finishing and Care
Finish the siding within 30 days of assembly with at least two coats of 100% acrylic latex exterior paint or solid-color stain. Seal exposed edges and caulk the joints specified in the instructions. Follow the applicable assembly and maintenance requirements.
Maintain at least 1/2 inch of clearance between the siding and a concrete slab, or at least 2-1/2 inches between the siding and the ground when using a treated floor. Keep vegetation and debris away from the building, and direct sprinkler water away from it.
Inspect the exterior finish and sealed joints periodically, and maintain them as needed under the applicable assembly, finishing and maintenance instructions. For separately installed windows or other accessories, follow their supplied care instructions.
Warranty
Published component warranty periods are one year for workmanship and manufacturing, two years for hardware and metals, and two years for roof sheathing. LP siding has separate published 50-year coverage. Coverage is subject to the official terms, including original-owner eligibility and proper assembly and maintenance; labor and installation are excluded. Contact Homestead Supplier for assistance.

FAQs
Where are the doors on this version?
The sliding double doors are centered on the gable end, beneath the roof peak. They move sideways on tracks and rollers rather than swinging outward. Their published nominal dimensions are 65 inches wide by 78 inches high, not a measured clear opening. Leave clearance for door travel and check equipment fit against the plans.
Is a floor included?
No. A wood floor is purchased separately, or you can prepare a suitable concrete foundation using the dimensions and instructions in the sliding-door manual.
Are windows included?
No. Windows are purchased separately. Check compatible window styles and placement against the assembly plans before making wall openings.
What foundation dimensions should I use?
The sliding-door manual specifies foundation dimensions of 12 ft 0 in × 16 ft 0 in. The base must be level and square. Check the manual and local requirements before building a floor or forming a slab.
What roofing materials do I need to supply?
Roof sheathing is included. You supply the final roof covering, drip edge and roof-covering fasteners. For shingles, the manual lists 10 bundles and eight 10-foot pieces of drip edge. Paint and Class 25 sealant are also required separately. Follow the assembly manual and the instructions for your chosen roof covering.
Will I need to cut materials during assembly?
Yes. The kit includes precut components and prebuilt door panels, but some on-site cutting is required. You assemble the walls and roof trusses yourself; installation is excluded.
Does the siding need to be painted?
Yes. The LP SmartSide siding arrives primed. Finish it within 30 days of assembly with at least two coats of 100% acrylic latex exterior paint or solid-color stain. Seal exposed edges and caulk the joints specified in the instructions.
Do I need a permit or site approval?
Check with your local building department and HOA, if applicable, before work begins. Confirm permit, setback, foundation and anchoring requirements. The manufacturer-listed sliding-door documents are not local permit approval. Contact Homestead Supplier if your local office requires additional drawings for your exact kit.
How should I prepare for delivery?
Delivery is by common-carrier LTL freight with curbside liftgate service; you handle movement beyond the end of the driveway. Prepare a firm, accessible surface, clear unloading and staging space, and arrange helpers. Ask Homestead Supplier to confirm access requirements for your site.
What does the nominal 12 × 16 size mean for usable space?
The nominal model size is 12 × 16. The manual specifies a 12 ft 0 in × 16 ft 0 in foundation, equal to a 192-square-foot foundation footprint. Wall framing reduces the clear interior space. Check your equipment and planned layout against the kit plans before ordering.
