How Can the Crafter's Connection 12x16 Shed Kit Help Organize Your Backyard Routine?
Nominal Size: 12 ft × 16 ftDoor layout: Centered eave double + gable walk-inRoof Pitch: 6/12 gableSiding: Primed LP SmartSideFloor: Not included
When the mower shares garage space with garden tools, project supplies, and everything waiting for its next use, putting things away becomes a chore of its own. The Best Barns Crafter's Connection 12x16 Shed Kit gives you a dedicated place to organize those belongings, with centered double doors on the long eave wall and a separate walk-in door at the gable end. You can plan storage around what you use most and choose exterior finishes that suit your property.
Benefits
Everyday Entry: The separate gable walk-in door gives you another way to reach frequently used tools and supplies. Keep a clear path inside this entrance so grabbing your gloves or returning a rake fits naturally into your routine.
A Route for Larger Loads: Centered double barn doors provide a wider opening option for moving larger belongings. Plan an unobstructed route from these doors into storage, and check actual opening clearances against your equipment before deciding where everything will go.
Prepared Building Components: Prepared structural components and prebuilt doors give your project a defined starting point. Some cuts and on-site wall and truss assembly are still required, so you can plan your tools, workspace, and help around the work involved.
An Exterior You Can Personalize: Primed LP SmartSide engineered wood siding and trim are ready for your chosen paint. Match your home, coordinate with nearby fencing, or choose a contrasting color that gives the shed its own place in the yard.
A Clearer Finishing Budget: Roof sheathing and hardware are included, while the finished floor, windows, final roofing, and paint are supplied separately. Accounting for those choices before building helps you budget for the completed shed and select finishes around your priorities.

Keep the foundation level and square, check local requirements, and follow the manual’s foam sill sealer detail for concrete construction.
Windows: Windows are purchased separately. Before cutting openings, plan compatible window styles and locations using the exact kit manual and the instructions supplied with your windows.
Roof: OSB roof sheathing is included. You supply the finished shingles or metal roofing, drip edge, appropriate roofing nails or screws, and exterior paint. Plan these materials before assembly using the manual and your chosen roofing system’s instructions.
Foundation and Assembly Planning
Prepare a level, square foundation measuring 12 ft 0 in × 16 ft 0 in, following this model’s manual. The instructions include a wood-floor layout and a concrete foundation option. Check local permit, setback and anchoring requirements before preparing the site.
This is a DIY assembly kit, and installation is excluded. Some on-site cutting is required. Review the complete assembly manual, packing list and additional-material requirements before starting.
Before You Build
Manual and packing list: Read the exact configuration’s manual and check the packing list before starting. Retain all kit materials until the build is complete.
Site and foundation: Confirm local requirements and prepare a level, square foundation to the manual’s dimensions.
Tools and staging: Gather the manual’s listed tools and safety glasses. Sort components by size and type in a clear staging area.
Helpers: Arrange extra help for delivery, raising walls and handling roof components.
Assembly sequence: Follow the manual’s numbered steps, using Step 8 for the centered double-door walls and Step 29 for the single-door preparation. Some cuts are required, and walls and trusses are assembled on site.
Roofing and finishing: Have your owner-supplied roofing and finishing materials ready for the appropriate assembly stages. Installation is not included.
Tools listed in the manual: a hand or circular saw, cordless drill, hammer, pencil, level, tape measure, 6–8 ft ladder(s), safety glasses, dust mask, Phillips screwdriver and framing square.
Exterior Finishing and Care
Finish the siding within 30 days of assembly with at least two coats of 100% acrylic latex exterior paint or solid-color stain. Seal exposed edges and caulk the joints specified in the instructions. Follow the applicable assembly and maintenance requirements.
Maintain at least 1/2 inch of clearance between the siding and a concrete slab, or at least 2-1/2 inches between the siding and the ground when using a treated floor. Keep vegetation and debris away from the building, and direct sprinkler water away from it.
Inspect the exterior finish and sealed joints periodically, and maintain them as needed under the applicable assembly, finishing and maintenance instructions. For separately installed windows or other accessories, follow their supplied care instructions.
Warranty
Published component warranty periods are one year for workmanship and manufacturing, two years for hardware and metals, and two years for roof sheathing. LP siding has separate published 50-year coverage. Coverage is subject to the official terms, including original-owner eligibility and proper assembly and maintenance; labor and installation are excluded. Contact Homestead Supplier for assistance.
Compare Crafter’s Connection door layouts
The gable wall is the end beneath the roof peak; the eave wall is the side beneath the lower roof edge.
Door dimensions are published nominal sizes, not measured clear passage. The walk-in door width is nominal; check the matching manual for framing and clearance.
Product Overview
This overview shows the Crafter’s Connection Walk-In Door series. Door placement and optional finishes shown may vary. Use the matching manual below for this centered-eave configuration; windows, flooring, final roof covering and paint are not included.
Assembly Manual
Review the instructions for this gable walk-in kit before preparing the foundation or starting assembly. Follow the centered double-door branch for this configuration.
Review the matching permit set with your local building department. Confirm any permit, foundation, setback and anchoring requirements before construction; the packet does not guarantee local approval.
The hinged double barn doors are centered on the long eave wall, beneath the lower roof edge. A separate 28-inch-wide walk-in door is on the gable end, beneath the triangular roof peak. This page covers that dual-entry configuration.
Is a floor included?
No. A wood floor is purchased separately, or you can prepare a suitable concrete foundation using the dimensions and instructions in the gable walk-in manual.
Are windows included?
No. Windows are purchased separately. Check compatible window styles and placement against the assembly plans before making wall openings.
What foundation dimensions should I use?
The gable walk-in manual specifies foundation dimensions of 12 ft 0 in × 16 ft 0 in. The base must be level and square. Check the manual and local requirements before building a floor or forming a slab.
What roofing materials do I need to supply?
Roof sheathing is included. You supply the final roof covering, drip edge and roof-covering fasteners. Follow the assembly manual and the instructions for your chosen roof covering.
Will I need to cut materials during assembly?
Yes. The kit includes precut components and prebuilt door panels, but some on-site cutting is required. You assemble the walls and roof trusses yourself; installation is excluded.
Does the siding need to be painted?
Yes. The LP SmartSide siding arrives primed. Finish it within 30 days of assembly with at least two coats of 100% acrylic latex exterior paint or solid-color stain. Seal exposed edges and caulk the joints specified in the instructions.
Do I need a permit or site approval?
Check with your local building department and HOA, if applicable, before work begins. Confirm permit, setback, foundation and anchoring requirements. The linked assembly manual and matching permit set do not replace local permit approval. Homestead Supplier can help confirm the correct documents for your exact kit.
How should I prepare for delivery?
Delivery is by common-carrier LTL freight with curbside liftgate service; you handle movement beyond the end of the driveway. Prepare a firm, accessible surface, clear unloading and staging space, and arrange helpers. Ask Homestead Supplier to confirm access requirements for your site.
What does the nominal 12 × 16 size mean for usable space?
The nominal model size is 12 × 16. The manual specifies a 12 ft 0 in × 16 ft 0 in foundation, equal to a 192-square-foot foundation footprint. Wall framing reduces the clear interior space. Check your equipment and planned layout against the kit plans before ordering.

Hats off to Homestead Supplier for superior customer service - these guys go above and beyond to answer all my questions.
