Could an offset doorway make your shed easier to arrange?
Nominal Size: 12 ft × 16 ftDoor layout: Offset gable double doorsRoof Pitch: 6/12 gableSiding: Primed LP SmartSideFloor: Not included
A mower needs a clear way in, while the tools beside it need somewhere to stay. The Best Barns Crafter's Connection 12x16 Shed Kit with Offset Gable Doors lets you plan around both. Its double doors sit toward one side of the gable end, leaving a larger section of that wall available for your own storage arrangement. Choose the left or right offset during assembly to suit your approach from the yard, then organize the space around what you reach for most.
Benefits
Bring the Entrance Closer to Your Path: Choose a left or right door offset before assembling the front wall. That gives you a way to plan the entrance around the approach from your yard or driveway, with room outside for the doors to swing and equipment to turn.
Give Everyday Tools a Place Near the Door: The offset opening leaves a larger section of the gable wall on one side of the entrance. Plan your own hooks or storage there for the hand tools and small supplies you want to grab without walking farther into the shed.
Arrange Storage Around What Moves Most: Use the 12x16 nominal footprint to plan places for bulky seasonal items and equipment you take out regularly. An entrance toward one side gives you a different starting point for that layout, so you can plan a route in and out before adding your own shelves or work surface.
Spend Less Time Preparing Individual Parts: Pre-cut wall and roof components and prebuilt door panels take some of the preparation out of a lumber-from-scratch project. The kit still needs assembly and the on-site cuts shown in the manual, so you can plan the work with a clear view of what remains to be done.
Coordinate the Shed With Your Yard: Paint-ready LP SmartSide lets you choose siding and trim colors that work with your home, fence or garden. Supply the paint and final roof covering separately, and plan those visible finishes together rather than working around a fixed factory color.

Plan the Floor, Windows and Roof
Floor: The floor is sold separately. You can build a wood floor or prepare a suitable concrete pad using the exact manual’s 12 ft. × 16 ft. outside foundation dimensions. Keep the foundation level and square, check local requirements, and follow the manual’s foam sill sealer detail for concrete construction.
Windows: Windows are purchased separately. Before cutting openings, plan compatible window styles and locations using the exact kit manual and the instructions supplied with your windows.
Roof: OSB roof sheathing is included. You supply the finished shingles or metal roofing, drip edge, appropriate roofing nails or screws, and exterior paint. Plan these materials before assembly using the manual and your chosen roofing system’s instructions.
Foundation and Assembly Planning
Prepare a level, square foundation measuring 12 ft 0 in × 16 ft 0 in, following this model’s manual. The instructions include a wood-floor layout and a concrete foundation option. Check local permit, setback and anchoring requirements before preparing the site.
This is a DIY assembly kit, and installation is excluded. Some on-site cutting is required. Review the complete assembly manual, packing list and additional-material requirements before starting.
Before You Build
Manual and packing list: Read the exact configuration’s manual and check the packing list before starting. Retain the pallets and packing materials until the build is complete.
Site and foundation: Confirm local requirements and prepare a level, square foundation to the manual’s dimensions.
Tools and staging: Gather the manual’s listed tools, safety glasses and dust mask. Sort components by size and type in a clear staging area.
Helpers: Arrange extra help for delivery, raising walls and handling roof components.
Assembly sequence: Follow the manual’s numbered steps and the correct centered or offset door-wall instructions. Some cuts are required, and walls and trusses are assembled on site.
Roofing and finishing: Have your owner-supplied roofing and finishing materials ready for the appropriate assembly stages. Installation is not included.
Tools listed in the manual: a saw, cordless drill, hammer, tape measure, pencil, level, framing square, Phillips screwdriver, 6–8 ft ladders, safety glasses and a dust mask.
Exterior Finishing and Care
Finish the siding within 30 days of assembly with at least two coats of 100% acrylic latex exterior paint or solid-color stain. Seal exposed edges and caulk the joints specified in the instructions. Follow the applicable assembly and maintenance requirements.
Maintain at least 1/2 inch of clearance between the siding and a concrete slab, or at least 2-1/2 inches between the siding and the ground when using a treated floor. Keep vegetation and debris away from the building, and direct sprinkler water away from it.
Inspect the exterior finish and sealed joints periodically, and maintain them as needed under the applicable assembly, finishing and maintenance instructions. For separately installed windows or other accessories, follow their supplied care instructions.
Warranty
Published component warranty periods are one year for workmanship and manufacturing, two years for hardware and metals, and two years for roof sheathing. LP siding has separate published 50-year coverage. Coverage is subject to the official terms, including original-owner eligibility and proper assembly and maintenance; labor and installation are excluded. Contact Homestead Supplier for assistance.
Compare Crafter’s Connection door layouts
The gable wall is the end beneath the roof peak; the eave wall is the side beneath the lower roof edge.
Door dimensions are published nominal sizes, not measured clear passage. The walk-in door width is nominal; check the matching manual for framing and clearance.
Product Overview
This overview shows the Crafter’s Connection Standard series. Door placement in the video may differ. Follow the offset-door instructions in Step 3 of the gable-door manual below. Windows, flooring, final roof covering and paint shown are not included.
Assembly Manual
Review the gable-door manual before preparing the foundation. Step 3 covers offset doors; choose left or right placement before building the door wall.
Can the offset doors go on either side of the gable end?
Yes. Step 3 of the gable-door assembly manual covers offset doors and explains how to build the opening on the left or right. Decide on the orientation before assembling and siding that wall.
How large are the double doors?
The published double-door dimensions are 64 inches wide by 71 inches high. These nominal dimensions do not establish measured clear passage. Check your equipment, the assembly plans and the space needed outside for door swing and turning.
Does the kit include the windows and floor shown?
No. Windows and flooring are separate purchases. The illustration also shows paint and a finished roof covering, which are not included in the base kit.
What foundation size does this configuration need?
The gable-door manual specifies nominal foundation dimensions of 12 ft 0 in by 16 ft 0 in. Follow its wood-floor or concrete-foundation instructions and prepare a level, square base. Check local permit, setback and anchoring requirements first.
Do I need to buy roofing materials separately?
Yes. OSB roof sheathing is included, but the final roof covering, drip edge and roof-covering fasteners must be supplied separately. Follow the shed manual and the instructions for your chosen roof covering.
Is any cutting required during assembly?
Yes. Pre-cut components and prebuilt door panels are included, but some on-site cutting is required. You assemble the walls and roof trusses; installation is excluded. Read the full manual and additional-material list before starting.
When should I finish the primed siding?
Finish the siding within 30 days of assembly with at least two coats of 100% acrylic latex exterior paint or solid-color stain. Seal exposed edges and caulk the joints specified in the instructions.
Do I need a permit or site approval?
Check with your local building department and HOA, if applicable, before work begins. Confirm permit, setback, foundation and anchoring requirements. The assembly manual is not permit approval. Homestead Supplier can help confirm the correct documents for your exact kit.
How should I prepare for delivery?
Delivery is by common carrier with curbside liftgate service; you handle movement beyond the end of the driveway. Prepare a firm, accessible surface, clear unloading and staging space, and arrange helpers. Ask Homestead Supplier to confirm access requirements and whether any parts of your order will arrive separately.
Does the 12 × 16 size provide 192 square feet of clear interior space?
The 12 ft. × 16 ft. foundation dimensions equal a nominal 192-square-foot footprint. Wall framing reduces the clear interior space. Check your equipment and planned layout against the kit plans before ordering.

Hats off to Homestead Supplier for superior customer service - these guys go above and beyond to answer all my questions.
